Angels Women progress in FA Cup

Women’s FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round result: Hollands & Blair 1 (0) v (3) 3 TAFC Women.

Despite being a level below the Angels, H & B have recruited well this summer so a tough match was expected in front of a decent crowd.

After an even opening period during which Charlotte Cresswell rattled the crossbar, Grace Mayhead capitalized on defensive uncertainty, following a long ball, and fired over the head of the ‘keeper into the net. It was two-nil soon after as she got the better of two defenders to poke home from 8 yards. Faith Gilson then fired in from 25+ yards to give the Angels a comfortable 0-3 lead. Nearing half-time the host’s impressive no 9 could only hit the post when it looked easier to score.

Early into the half it was 1-3 as a loose ball in the area was smashed into the net. The rest of the half was very competitive with H & B having the better of it, but the Angels game management was outstanding and they saw the game out to make it into the next round.

Some excellent individual performances today but, as a team performance, this was one of the best witnessed.

Back to League action next week when we visit Three Bridges.
