Kent Youth League summary

Last weekend brought all the thrills and spills of the Kent Youth League and that was not only the Under-13’s unbelievable 6-6 draw at Bearsted!

Unfortunately, our Under-15’s run in the London County Cup is over, after an incredible run in which they beat both of last year’s finalists, when they suffered defeat at Greenwich Borough as James Ward reports:

“Saturday saw us travel to Greenwich Borough for the London County Cup Quarter Final. It was a competitive game throughout, but Greenwich were the better side on the day and fully deserved their 3-0 victory. The scoreline was a fair reflection of the match and we wish them the very best in the semi final.

“On Sunday we hosted Bearsted and having beaten them previously with score lines of 10-1 and 6-1, this was a fixture we expected to manage better. Despite many of the players having featured the day before, the performance fell below our standards. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, a result that could prove costly come the end of the season.”

And so to the Under-13’s incredible match at Bearsted, as Ollie Pantrey reviews:

“Our first league fixture after the New Year delivered a dramatic and entertaining 6-6 draw away at Bearsted. After a slow start and conceding two early goals, the team showed real character to respond positively and grow into the game, producing some excellent attacking play and quality finishes to get back on level terms.

“The match ebbed and flowed throughout, with both sides enjoying strong spells. We created a high number of chances from wide areas, particularly getting into the box and delivering from dangerous positions and showed real bravery in our play despite the chaotic nature of the contest. A difficult spell early in the second half saw Bearsted open up a lead, but the players reacted superbly, adjusting well and finding a way back into the game once again.

“Late goals and chances at both ends ensured a thrilling finale, with both teams pushing for a winner right to the final whistle. While not a game defined by control, it was certainly one full of energy, resilience, and attacking intent, making it an exciting spectacle for everyone involved.”

The Under-14’s moved into second place as both them and their opponents sought to chase down Maidstone United at the top of the table, as Oliver Stell reports:

“The Angels U14’s travelled to Footscray to play Erith & Belvedere in a top three clash in the KYL Central Division.

“The contest started evenly, with both teams having a fair amount of possession without troubling the opposition goal. We started to get a grip of the game and continually threatened the Erith goal and on the 15 minute mark, the ball fell to Max Carrington who laid off a calm pass into the oncoming Lewis Schembri to wrap his foot around and put the ball into the far corner. Only 10 minutes later, the Angels extended their lead when Carter Deacon won possession and drove into the opposition half to play a through ball into the path of Carrington, who once again laid it into Lewis Schembri to slot the ball into the bottom corner.

“The game carried on with a lot of possession for Tonbridge, without that cutting edge to kill the game off. In the 70th minute, Jack Barratt made a run into the box and was bought down with a desperate last ditch tackle, resulting in a penalty. Jack stepped up to rifle the ball into the top corner giving the Angels a 3-0 away win and another three points to add to the tally.

“Man of the match was given to Carter Deacon for a dominating performance in the middle of the park. Lewis Schembri was also voted parents player of the match for his two goals.”

The Under-16’s maintained their unbeaten league record and have the games in hand to overhaul the present leaders Erith and Belvedere as Adam Barden reports:

“Sunday’s game saw us travel to Dulwich Village for our second game of 2026.

“With a good result for Dulwich last week we knew this wasn’t going to be a walkover. The boys started well but the against the home side’s very low block we struggled to break them down before going ahead ahead after 15 minutes with a fantastic long range effort from Roman Wilkinson.

“The Angels continued to dominate the ball, and being patient in our play when Archie delivered a brilliant ball to Aidan Heaton, after a superb move of many passes, who finished well.

“In the second half Dulwich really came at us for 20 minutes but we were able to hold them off with some resolute defending and some great saves by our goalkeeper Alfie. Into the last 20 minutes we regained control of the game and with 10 minutes to play Heaton delivered a great cross into the box for it to be headed into his own goal by a Dulwich defender.

A great performance and a clean sheet to set us up for a top of the table clash with Erith and Belvedere next week.”

Our Isthmian Under-18’s have had a busy week starting on Monday with a 4-0 home win in the league against Broadbridge Heath, report can be read HERE and on Thursday they progressed in the Kent Intermediate Cup to the semi-final with a late, late winner in a 2-1 win at Deal Town U23’s.
