Chesham United 1 – 0 Tonbridge Angels

Chesham United 1 v Tonbridge Angels 0

Tonbridge Angels suffered a first defeat in four league games and ended a three match winning streak after losing at Chesham United.

The hosts started the stronger of the two teams with Jayden Bennetts firing a strong shot straight at Matt Rowley in the first minute. Chesham continued to put pressure on Angels with a series of shots which Rowley dealt with comfortably.

Angels then started to grow into the game a little more with Bailey Akehurst blasting a deflected long range shot towards goal. Opportunities then began to arrive for both teams with Ethan Sutcliffe and Akehurst placing shots over the crossbar. Bennetts and Giorgio Rasulo brought out further good saves from Rowley.

Bunmi Babajide was fouled on the edge of the area on 43 minutes but Akehurst’s free kick was fired across the face of the goal with no-one able to get a touch on it. There was a further attempt on goal by Nazir Bakrin, but his weak shot was easily dealt with.

Angels started the second half positively and had a couple of long-range shots which were on target but easily dealt with by Ben Goode.

On 62 minutes the hosts got the winning goal with a fierce shot from Alfie Williams, fired from just inside the penalty area after the ball ricocheted off Sutcliffe.

Both teams made several substitutions, after which chances became fewer. In extra time Chesham looked to double their lead with a fierce shot across goal from Alex Babos. In the last couple of minutes of play Angels went looking for an equaliser, but it wasn’t to be with the Chesham defence holding firm.
