Ethan and Phoebe Scoop Top Awards….’Waggy’ Honoured

Ethan Sutcliffe and Phoebe Farnham won the coveted Supporters’ Player of The Year awards in the men’s and women’s sections respectively at this season’s annual awards.

Meanwhile Sean Shields’ unforgettable last-minute winner at Maidstone United won the men’s best goal category with Phoebe Farnham also scooping the women’s team accolade.

And there was a beautiful moment when cherubic-faced youngsters Charlie and Brooke Thorpe were jointly presented with the Devonte Aransibia Young Person Of The Year award, an annual award for a young player, fan or volunteer who has gone the extra mile for the club.

A man who could feasibly stake a claim to the title of ‘Mr Tonbridge Angels’ in the last few seasons, such is his popularity and influence at the club, Scott Wagstaff, received the Clubman of The Year Award. The night also served as a farewell to Scott, although perhaps the door for a potential return was left a tiny bit ajar………

There were also winners in the Walking Football and Academy sections while club stalwart Les Beacham – a familiar face at the club with his ‘wear shorts in all weathers’ policy – was given the Directors’ Award of Thanks for Dedicated Service and as part of his prize was presented with an enormous pair of shorts which would have been all the rage in about 1920.

At the end of the evening Alan Dunne said: “I’ve been to many awards nights in my time but this was exceptional and it was great to hold it in the new marquee which looked excellent. It was great to come together, enjoy ourselves, have a bit of banter and celebrate the club’s achievements, of which there have been many.”
