Sporting Memories Cafe – Wimbledon

Ivy clad buildings and green, green grass; the gentle thwack of the ball off the racket strings;
strawberries and cream complemented by a cooling glass of Pimms on a pleasantly warm day, it is
quintessential England, it has to be Wimbledon.

We all have great memories of SW19. In more recent years, who didn’t shed a tear back in 2013 as Andy Murray at last brought British success after 76 years of waiting for a man to emulate the success of Fred Perry. Those with more distant memories will remember the Queen’s Jubilee year of 1977 when Virginia Wade, who as a girl was schooled at Tunbridge Wells Grammar School, beat Betty Stove to win her only Wimbledon singles title.

It is what memories are made from and at the Sporting Memories Cafe in the 1948 Suite at Tonbridge Angels’ Longmead Stadium on Monday, 6th July from 11.00am to 12.30pm we will be reminiscing those moments while enjoying our own slice of Wimbledon with strawberries and cream, Pimms and some magic moments on the big TV screens.

The Sporting Memories Cafe was successfully launched in February providing support and enjoyment for local residents with moderate memory loss or people in the community simply feeling isolated. The Cafe offers a great opportunity for people to engage socially in a safe and welcoming environment.

Please come along and join us, new Cafe members are always most welcome.
