Tonbridge Angels U18 2 Burgess Hill Town U18 4
Angels U18s squandered a two-goal lead to lose their Champion of Champions’ semi-final showdown on Monday at the Yeomans Community Stadium, Longmead.
After winning the Isthmian Youth League (East) they faced Burgess Hill Town U18s who won the South section.
Despite racing into a two goal first half lead through goals from Callum Fincham and Dani Sulovari, Angels capitulated conceding four second half goals to crash out.
They were not helped by the sending off of Lucas Kernan in a game which became increasingly fractious as it progressed.
It should not deter from what has been a superb season for the team.
Angels Head of Community and U18s Manager Dom Welsh said: “It’s a really difficult one to take. We were 2-0 up at half time and while I wouldn’t say we were cruising I thought we were controlling the game and even though they had a lot of the ball they didn’t really hurt us.
“I thought we started the second half well but then it was an error which gave them their first goal and then when we went down to ten men it was backs against the wall for us from that point on.
“They took advantage of that with some quick fire goals. We are gutted but now we have one day’s rest to pick ourselves up for Wednesday’s game in the Kent Intermediate Cup Final.”
