Ahead of the new season, Angels boss Alan Dunne has been filmed in a far-ranging interview.
In it, ‘Dunney’ speaks of his upbringing on a north London council estate to signing for Millwall as a schoolboy aged 12.
He talks of the influence of the many managers and senior pros he has met along the way including Kenny Jackett, Ian Holloway and Billy Bonds.
In a fascinating insight, he recalls his debut for Millwall coming on as a substitute at Sheffield United and how, after being turned inside out by The Blades’ Michael Tonge, he doubted he had the hallmarks to make the grade.
In the event, he went on to make more than 400 appearances for Millwall, become club captain and be inducted into The Lions’ Hall of Fame.
He says how after he left Bromley he planned to take a year out of the game but was lured to Angels by chair Sophie Purves.
Accompanied by some interesting aerial shots of The Yeomans Community Stadium, Longmead, the film also includes footage of a training session and Dunney goes on to say how he wants to bring memories to Tonbridge and how last season’s win at Torquay ranks as one of the highlights of his illustrious career.
Turning to this season, Dunney says: “It’s going to be a rollercoaster. We might not be the finished article yet but I think we could surprise a few people. We have a ‘no excuse’ culture here and I have a squad and a playing staff who will bust a gut for one another.”
