Introducing ‘Winner’ Tony Craig

Tonbridge Angels is delighted to announce a new addition to Alan Dunne’s backroom team with the arrival of the redoubtable Tony Craig – a man Dunne himself describes as ‘a winner.’

Like the gaffer, Craig is strongly associated with Millwall where he made over 330 appearances across four spells, including captaining the club.

In total, the 41-year-old has clocked up an incredible 845 league appearances in a career spanning 23 years. Initially a left-back, Craig became almost the archetypal take-no-prisoners centre back following a positional switch in his mid-twenties.

In recent seasons, Angels fans became familiar with the six-footer when he was a mainstay of Dorking Wanderers rearguard.

The southeast Londoner came through the youth system at The New Den, making his first team debut at 18, also spending some time on loan at Wycombe Wanderers. A short spell at Crystal Palace preceded a return to Millwall, first on loan and then permanently, where he made 121 appearances in four seasons.

Next stop was Brentford where he made around 130 appearances in three successful seasons before he returned home to Millwall in 2015 making another 65 appearances.

Spells at Bristol Rovers and Crawley Town followed before making the move to Dorking in 2023.

Now, after hanging up his boots, he is relishing his first coaching position and brings his wealth of experience to the Yeomans Community Stadium, Longmead.

Craig told Angels Media: “I’m really pleased to start the next chapter of my career. I’ve got my A badges and licence and I’ve been working with Millwall U16s for three years and have plenty of experience of going into first team environments. Obviously I’ve known Dunney for a good number of years. We’re quite similar characters and he’s sold the Tonbridge project to me and I want to be a part of the journey.”

After securing Craig’s services, Dunne said: “I’ve shared a changing room many times with Tony and I know what he’s about. He wears his heart on his sleeve and he’s a winner. He’s got a great name in the game and has a massive aura around him. He’s seen what we’re about, wants to be part of it, and I’m delighted to have him here as part of the team.”
