Tonbridge Angels 1 Biggleswade FC 0
Angels boss Alan Dunne felt Biggleswade FC gave his charges a good test in the opening pre-season friendly at the Yeomans Community Stadium, Longmead on Saturday.
In sweltering conditions, a solitary goal just before half-time gave Angels a slender win over their visitors from Bedfordshire.
Dunne said: “It was a good exercise. They gave us a test. We got the minutes in the bag and it was a chance to see some of the new lads for the first time. We got what we needed to get out of it and I’m always pleased with a clean sheet and on another day I thought we could have had more goals.
“Today was really about players getting their ‘geography,’ getting their bearings on the pitch and starting to build relationships with team-mates and I’m pleased we got through it unscathed.
“It was also good to see a number of trialists who were all trying to impress. I thought the attitude of the group was good, the mentality was there and I thought we put a good shift in.
“Tuesday (against Sutton United) will be a different test, probably a much tougher one but one we look forward to.”
Saturday’s game was decided by a 41st minute goal after one of the many trialists on display prodded home a cross from debutant Sam Corne who was captaining the side on his 30th birthday.
There were also Angels debuts for Nathan Harness, Harvey Lintott, Harry Gardner, Jephte Tanga and Lexus Beeden with a starting eleven of Harness, Lintott, Sutcliffe, Thompson, Akehurst, Gardner, Corne, Babajide, Trialist, Baker, Tanga.
A complete switchover at half-time saw nine trialists on the pitch for Angels alongside Brad Williams and Beeden.
