Dave Netherstreet pays tribute to an Angels stalwart and an invaluable friend to the club
The club has learned that on Boxing Day, Malcolm Larter sadly passed away aged 65 after a long battle with his health.
The Angels family sends its condolences and thoughts to Malcolm’s wife Lee and sons Shaun and Andy, their wives and all his grandchildren and wider family.
Malcolm was a local builder – ML Builders Ltd – and a great friend, sponsor and supporter of the Angels.
He admitted he knew little about football but Shaun and Andy enjoyed coming down to see the Angels and his grandson, Blake Larter, plays for the Angels Academy. Malcolm was fascinated to hear about the various problems encountered in running the club and how we managed to survive, topics mainly discussed over a cup of tea and a biscuit.
He was a man you could meet once and wish you had met far earlier in your life. He was so easy to talk to and knowledgeable and whilst personal views may have occasionally differed there was never any falling out because he was just such a nice person.
The help he gave the club over the past few years has let us move forward to improve the facilities enjoyed by all who use the club. Shaz Williams, Geoff Curtis and myself benefited the most from Malcolm’s ‘no problem’ attitude to issues relating to building and maintenance. He was also very good at not laughing at our efforts to repair things and his mantra was always: ‘if a job needs to be done, it must be done properly’.
Shaun and Andy will take over the running of ML Builders so you will still see his company’s name at the ground and we will continue our close working relationship with the family.
Thank you Malcolm for your friendship and help. You will live long in our hearts and memories.
Dave
