Angels teams well represented
Last Sunday, 25th May, Tonbridge Angels hosted their second Walking Football Tournament and it proved to be a great success, enjoyed by all.
The weather played its part as the morning was dedicated to the Over-50’s with 10 teams competing. Alongside local teams, two teams travelled a fair distance from Bracknell and South East England Representatives, a team that included full England Walking Football internationals. Our Tonbridge Angels Over-50’s did very well and were eventually knocked out in the semi-final to the eventual winners SE England Reps, but it was close game with two goals being scored in the last five minutes. A great effort by a team in transition.
The early afternoon was for the Over-60’s and the Angels fielded three teams in the nine team competition, which is a great testament to the growth and success of the Tonbridge Angels Walking Football Community. All of the other teams were from Kent or Sussex. Two of our teams ended up playing in the plate competition and thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Tonbridge Angels Over-60’s Blues followed up their runners-up success in their league this year by winning our own tournament beating Eastbourne in the final. They played six games winning them all, with every outfield player contributing at least a goal.
The late afternoon belonged to the women, four teams competed in a round robin tournament, Tonbridge Angels, Margate, Maidstone and Crystal Palace. After losing to Palace in the round robin stage, the Angels eventually played them again in the Final. The game ended goalless and was decided on penalties, won by Crystal Palace, but great credit to our women’s team and coaches.
