Slough Town Preview

Tonbridge Angels travel to Berkshire on Saturday in confident mood following last Saturday’s convincing 4-1 win over AFC Totton, looking for back-to-back wins for only the second time this season and for a first time under Alan Dunne.

Despite Slough Town currently sitting in 18th position in National League South, level on 31 points with the Angels, they are in very respectable form, winning four of their last five games with their only blip since Christmas being the defeat at bottom side Chippenham Town.

Slough’s top scorer is Wiktor Makowski with 11 league and cup goals whilst former Welling and Maidstone United man Ruben Shakpoke, Jared Myers and Jaiden Drakes-Thomas all have four.

Possibly their best known player is Johnny Goddard, who often chips in with goals from midfield, while they do have one former Angel in the shape of forward Luke Holness, who scored in successive games around Christmas.

Slough started this season with another former Angel, the imposing presence of Jordan Greenidge, up front.  Whilst he has now left for Hampton and Richmond Borough, his brother Reiss is still in the Arbour Park back line.

The reverse fixture was played on a hot opening day of the season that brought a goalless draw with a resolute defensive performance against a Slough side that were dominant for long periods.

Last season’s visit to Arbour Park brought to an end an unbeaten start to the season of 11 games with a 3-1 defeat following two set piece goals for Dan Bayliss and an added time clinching goal for Sam Evans after Liam Vincent had equalised Slough’s opening goal.

We have been in the same division as Slough since our promotion in 2019, so for the vast majority of Angels’ supporters Arbour Park, which opened in 2016, is familiar territory. The main stand straddles the half-way line housing 250 seats and with no supporting pillars and the rake of the stand being quite steep, supporters enjoy fine views of the playing action. At the top of the stand is the bar facility and on either side of the stand there are the catering facilities which serve food that is not the usual footy fare. Opposite is a small covered seated stand and both ends have small covered terraces that more or less extend the full width of the pitch.

Online admission prices to the game are Adults: £15; Concessions: £10; Youths (13-17 years) and Students: £3; Under-13’s: £1 and these can be purchased HERE Ticket prices rise by £2 at the turnstiles.

There is no parking at Arbour Park but is available at the nearby Lynch Hill Enterprise Academy, off Stoke Road (SL2 5AY).

The nearest train station is Slough Railway Station (Queen Elizabeth Line/GWR). It is about 1.5 miles from the stadium, which is roughly a 5-10 minute drive or a 20-minute walk.

Enjoy the game!
