Last night Tonbridge Angels U18’s overcame a tough test beating Cray Wanderers U23’s 1-0 in the Kent Intermediate Cup Semi Final.
The young Angels side, made up of all U18 players bar two U19 aged players, progressed to the final overcoming one of the South East’s most rated U23 teams. The team has progressed through the Kent Intermediate Cup in style, a competition mainly made up by U23 teams and reserve teams. The squad has battled through tough ties away at Lordswood U23’s, Deal Town U23’s and at home to Margate U23’s and Cray Wanderers U23’s.

In front of healthy and vocal set of Angels fans the Angels were dominant in possession in the first half and had the much better openings forcing saves and earning corners. Their persistence finally paid off just prior to half time when a cross towards the back post from Mackenzie Richardson found the head of Callum Fincham who headed back across goal for 1-0.

The second half was a barrage of long balls, crosses and “Rory Delap” length throws from anywhere inside the Angels half, but the group withstood the pressure and defended like trojans to seal victory and will now play in the final against either Holland & Blair U23 or Faversham Town U23 on Wednesday 6th May at Chatham Town FC.
An outstanding achievement from a young group in this competition, now hoping to go all the way and win it!
