Angels O50 1-2 Insulators

The last game of the season for the 50s proved be a tough encounter with a physically large and well drilled side from Paddock Wood.

Following our draw on Monday the team were told to attack wide and defend narrow with communication being key. We knew the strengths of the opposition and Karl Day had the task of marking a giant of a man who played up front for Insulators. The play for the first 10 minutes was tight, neither team making much headway although Mark Cornish was probably the busier of the goalkeepers. Insulators took the lead on 7 minutes with a well taken goal. The rest of the half played out without further incident.

Tonbridge were not out of this game at the start of the second half and continued to press but the Insulators defence always had an answer to our probing play. We soon found ourselves 2 -0 down, a speculative shot slipping under the diving Mark Cornish, but again the resolute nature of the Tonbridge team kicked in. Newly introduced sub Alan Weber getting his second goal in a week to bring the game back to 2-1. Regrettably that’s how the game ended, a very tight match with good football played by both teams

It was a disappointing end to the season, the team have definitely grown but too many games have just slipped from our grasp. There will be plenty of tournament opportunities moving forward to further improve. The 50s league in general has become a very competitive arena to play in which is fantastic for all those involved who must not forget that they are still playing a game they love and enjoy over the age of 50.
