Ebbsfleet O65 1-3 Angels O65
A thoroughly controlled and dominant performance by our O65 gave them a 3-1 win at Ebbsfleet on Wednesday night. This was the result they needed to guarantee second place in their first season in the Kent League.
We slowed the game down right from the outset and dominated possession. This frustrated our opponents and gradually as we sped it up we managed to breakdown their solid midfield and Ian MacDonald was through to slot the ball home to give us the lead.
Strong refereeing was expected in this game and it was no surprise when numerous running offences were committed especially by Ebbsfleet. In the 13th minute it gave us the penalty we deserved to go two up. Graham Smith the scorer. Just before halftime a powerful shot from Steve Williams hit the post and we could approach the second half in a positive manner.
The second half began much is the first and with frustration setting in for Ebbsfleet we gradually had more chances although one misplaced pass let them back into the game in the 29th minute. Soon we were back into our game plan and Graham Smith scored a third in the 33rd minute making him the league’s top scorer and giving us the win we wanted.
This game was played at a much slower pace mainly due to the refereeing decisions but it was good to know how the Angels can adapt to different situations and having been guilty of giving away running penalties in previous games we didn’t in this one. Just one game left in the season but with second place secured we are very proud of this new team.
