Angels Over-60’s Greens 0 Ebbsfleet 4
On Saturday, the Angels’ Greens welcomed Ebbsfleet United to the Yeomans Community Stadium in a return fixture that they had lost 11-2 a few weeks ago. There were high hopes that we would put in an improved performance and reverse the result. However, two very early mistakes led to goals and we were behind from then on.
The Greens did manage to gain control of the game in the first half and had a few shots but none really troubled the Ebbsfleet goalkeeper. As the second half began Ebbsfleet once again put on the pressure and retained possession for a good while before they slipped the ball past our ‘keeper Jon Battershill who had made a number of crucial saves up to that point. Once again the Greens were revitalised and a long spell of pressure got Ebbsfleet into a mess and they committed a running offence leading to a penalty for the home side. However, the keeper pulled off a magnificent save to stop Zep Fermi’s rocket shot. More pressure gave us the edge at the end of the game but we were unable to get that consolation goal.
As we chased the game, just to get on the score sheet, Ebbsfleet put in another counter attack to slot the ball home for a 4-0 win. Despite the defeat there are real signs of improvement and we hope our next home game against Haydens will bring that elusive victory.

Maidstone United Over-65 0 Angels Over-65 2
A very tight game on Saturday with very good defensive discipline from both sides meant that there were not many close chances. Early on the Maidstone keeper distributed the ball straight to Graham who delivered the ball back straight underneath the ‘keeper to give the Angels a 1-0 lead. A lack of discipline from the Angels provided Maidstone with a penalty for four runs, but this was saved brilliantly by Jim diving low to his right, his only save of the game!
The second half continued to be a very tight affair, however, Maidstone had their own discipline issues and gave away a penalty. Graham stepped up and put it high and right to the keeper, who got his hands on it but not enough to stop it hitting the net. However, the referee asked for a retake as the whistle had not been blown. The retake was low to the opposite side for a 2-0 lead. The remainder of the game was a six minute keep the ball session, originally learnt from Maidstone 2 years ago!
Woodchurch Over-60’s 4 Angels Blues Over-60’s 8
A chaotic first half on a pitch that is square where you shoot from anywhere to some pretty wide goals. Always a difficult place to go and we played Ashford there earlier in the season.
Eight goals in the first half in which Woodchurch raced into a 1-0 lead, Tonbridge hit back with three quick goals. Then Gordon produced an own goal from nowhere followed by Woodchurch scoring again quickly to level the game at 3-3. Tonbridge then scored two quick goals in succession to end the first half 5-3 up.
The second half was a different story. Tonbridge slowed down the game and steadily took control and went into a 6-3 lead, although Woodchurch did strike back. However, the last 10 minutes was all about controlling the game and resulted in a more calmer approach and two further goals.
Goals were scored by Nigel 3, Martin 2, with Steve, Gordon and Graham all scoring one. Eventually a solid performance that cemented top spot in the league phase.
